About

SIREN is an original musical written by Boston Conservatory at Berklee’s Nina Osso (B.F.A. 2024). Timely, fresh, and thoroughly original, SIREN is a unique opportunity to put a new generation’s voice onstage. In this day and age, the importance of new work and new stories cannot be understated. Presented by Berklee student club Newground, SIREN currently involves 50 Boston Conservatory and Berklee College of Music students between its cast, creative team, and orchestra, all of whom are working to bring a story that’s never been told before to the wider Boston community.

By drawing on the familiar stories of Greek mythology, SIREN comments on today’s society, inspiring important conversations about what it means to remain apolitical, what role we play in changing the world, and the importance of listening and understanding each other. A hopefully-dystopian musical, SIREN takes place in an alternate version of 2026. A charismatic leader with a predilection for ancient Greek society and mythology has been elected to the American presidential office, and as he attempts to draft a new constitution, it quickly becomes apparent that his ideology is dangerously close to fascism. Brent, a recent college graduate living in Washington, D.C., chooses ignorant bliss despite warnings from Adeline, a brilliant journalist and Brent’s closest friend. But when Brent is drafted to fill a particularly violent role within this new government, he's forced to come to terms with all sides of himself–his moral boundaries, identity, and contributions to a system that is more dangerous than it looks.

Thanks to your support, Newground will be able to secure a venue to house the production and bring SIREN to as many people as possible. Additionally, gifts support SIREN’s videography, design, costuming, and marketing efforts. We hope to make SIREN as accessible as possible, offering free admission to local students and distributing videos to those who cannot attend the production in person.

Since its creation, Newground has strived to provide the students of Boston Conservatory at Berklee with a platform to share their original works. Every season, artists submit their pieces in hopes of bringing their work to life. As a student group, Newground has been able to produce theater in a smaller classroom-like setting but recognizes and aspires to meet the need to elevate production quality. With your help, we will be able to bring SIREN and its vital message to fruition.
